Among the artefacts on display at the museum are tools walkmen – those charged maintaining the route – used, including equipment to kill water voles. Now a protected species, water voles threatened the aqueduct's integrity. Also on show is an elm pipe, one of thousands used to transport water from the New River to people's homes. The logs were bored out using a horse-powered borer, with Ware pump maker John Bartholomew tasked with choosing the trees to bore. | www.waremuseum.org.uk Tel: 01920 487848 |
