Report of New River walk (southern half)

John Polley, the leader of the New River Walk from Enfield to Islington on Sunday 26 June 2016 writes:

The walk went very well, and was well attended with a record 20 walkers. Most were new to the NR, and as always, fascinated at what lies hidden away on their doorstep!

Two nice stops were enjoyed on the way...

We called in at the annual Palace Gardens residents' association Summer Fair being held on the Triangle near Ally Pally station where we paused for lunch & enjoyed live music, amazing cakes, sangria, doner kebabs, and the local bakery among other attractions!

Further south, we took a diversion around the East Reservoir to see the recently-opened Woodberry Wetlands. It was well worth it! A wonderful nature reserve that will now be included in all future New River 'southern half' walk routes! They have certainly done a great job of restoring the coal house with its right-hand-side wall panel commemorating the Mylnes - photo below...
