Walk from Enfield to Islington

Sunday 28 June 2015

From walk organiser, John Polley:

This is an all day walk of around 10.5 miles (17 km). You are welcome to join us for all, or part, of the route. It's always appreciated if you let me know you will be coming.

You can view / download details here: New River Walk 28 June 2015 in PDF format. I do hope you can join us.

Our walk starts at the ‘Crown & Horsehoes’ pub on the banks of the original New River Loop in Enfield Town. The nearest railway station is Enfield Chase on the Kings Cross/Finsbury Park line which is about 5 minutes walk. Alternatively Enfield Town stn (London Overground/Liverpool Street/Seven Sisters line) is about 15 minutes walk away. If you are coming by car there is ample ‘on street’ parking in the area.

We break for lunch at Avenue Gardens by Alexandra Palace station where there are seats, local shops & a pub. Short breaks are taken en route at Deadmans Bridge on Green Lanes, Palmers Green & later on at Clissold House café in Clissold Park at Stoke Newington.

At the end of the walk, we plan to walk from New River Head to Angel/Kings Cross to take the tube to Finsbury Park, then the overground train back to Enfield Chase.

Trains: As regards railway engineering works, this is the current status:-

  • Until approximately 09:45 Buses will replace trains between Finsbury Park (northbound) / Alexandra Palace (southbound) and Stevenage via Hertford North.
  • All day: No service operates between Moorgate and Finsbury Park on Sundays; trains run to/from London King's Cross.

Below is a reminder of the remaining walk dates for 2015:

  • 27th September - New River Whitewebbs Loop (includes an optional chargeable visit to Whitewebbs pumping station (now the Whitewebbs Museum Of Transport) to view the well that fed water into the New River)
